With the temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, you could do with a few summer chillers. There is nothing like cooling down after coming from the sun with a drink that gives you health as well.
Some delicious yet healthy summer drink recipes that you should try are:
Cardamom, almonds and milk combine to form not only a refreshing summer drink, but give excellent nutrition to you too. You need a cup of almonds and pistachios, three cups of chilled or warm milk, two-third tablespoon of cardamom powder, two tablespoons of rose water, and sugar to taste.
Soak the almonds in water for an hour or so to enable removing of skin. Ground the almonds to a paste with the help of your food processor. Now add the rest of the ingredients into the ground mixture. Blend them well. Your delectable chilled almond milk is ready to be served.
On a hot day, chilling with a mango lassi, with the refreshing sweetness of mango is a great experience. Yoghurt content of the lassi would help to added a different flavour to it. You will need three glasses of yoghurt, a glass of crushed ice, mango pieces or pulp enough to fill a glass, sugar to taste if needed, one tablespoon almonds for each of the four glasses.
In a blender, put the mango, ice, yoghurt and sugar, and blend till you get it smooth. Pour them into four glasses and serve after adding almonds.
If you want to prevent dehydration, having a concoction of wild mangosteen, jiggery and cumin seeds just before going out in the sun can prevent a lot of disorders during summer such as dehydration. Foods that increase the heat in your body should be avoided during summer.
These include excessively salty, dry, stale, hot and spicy, fried, bitter and foods that are sharp to taste such as tamarind, pickles, excessively spicy curries, and the like. Cold drinks, ice creams and canned fruit juices, though they bring down your body temperature, should be avoided as they are not healthy options. They increase acidity and cause more heath later on. Itching, irritability and other skin disorders can result.
If you are not used to having a glass or two of water immediately after waking up in morning, this is the best time to start it. If you follow this routine, and that of having a glass of water before going out in the sun, the risk of heat stroke would be considerably reduced.
