On the contrary, summers can be a great time to enjoy swimming, relaxing at beaches and pool games. To enjoy your summertime to the hilt, you must know how to keep yourself fit and be healthy during the season. Here are some diet tips which will help you enjoy a healthy summer.
All these beverages contain good amount of sugar, artificial colours and preservatives. These drinks act as diuretics and cause loss of fluids through urine. Carbonated beverages (soft drinks) contain diluted phosphoric acid that has the potential to damage the inner lining of the digestive tract. Due to heat, our body loses lot of fluids. Thus, it’s better to stay away from caffeinated and alcoholic beverages during summer because they make you dehydrated.
Restrain yourself from consuming hot fruits and vegetables in excess amount during summers. Avoid eating spinach, radish, hot peppers, garlic, beetroot, pineapple, coconut, apricots, peaches, grape tomatoes, grapefruit and ripe mangoes. Resisting mangoes in summers is quite a tough task. So soak them overnight in water if you eat.
Avoid eating junk foods as they are fat laden. These food items are greasy and fried which has a heated thermal effect on your body. Thus, junk food make you feel sluggish and lethargic.
During summers, your body tends to lose water and sodium in the form of sweat. Hence, drink plenty of water. Every time you go out of the house, make sure you carry a water bottle with you, be it for your office, to get your car or going to a mall.
Your summer diet should incorporate fruits and vegetables, which are high in water content, such as watermelons, oranges, muskmelons, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. These veggies and fruits keep your body hydrated and cool.
Whole grains functions well for your blood sugar level, energy levels and appetite and are highly nutritous. Stay away from eating too much of carbohydrate sources such as white bread, pasta, cakes, patties, cold drinks, potato chips and sugary sweets. For optimum health during summer, you should eat at least three 1-ounce servings of whole grains per day.
