Signs of an Abnormal Thyroid

Thyroid is an essential gland in our body which is responsible for many vital functions such as storing the hormones, regulating metabolism, body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, to list a few. So, the abnormal performance of the thyroid gland can result in improper functioning of the body. In order to prevent that, it is necessary to spot the early signs of abnormal thyroid.

Changes in Hair and Skin


If your hair quality has deteriorated and is weak, coarse and dry, then your thyroid is to be blamed. Improper functioning of the thyroid gland makes your hair dry and fragile, and cause hair fall. Thyroid also brings changes in your skin texture. It often makes you skin rough, dry and thick.


Changes in Body Temperature


If the thyroid gland is not working properly, it can interrupt your body’s ability to regulate the temperature resulting in feeling unusually cold or hot. Patients suffering from hyperthyroidism develop a loathing towards heat and they sweat excessively even in normal temperature. Meanwhile, hypothyroidism patients show the tendency of feeling unusually cold.

Change in Heart Rate

 

Thyroid gland can influence the heart-beat rate, which is a leading cause of many heart -related disorders. People suffering from hyperthyroidism experience an abnormal increase in heart rate, resulting in high blood pressure and anxiety. On the other side, hypothyroidism slows down the heart rate in effected people.


Unexplained Weight gain or Weight loss
