One in 12 teens Prone to Anger DisorderPsychologists have claimed that one in 12 adolescents that behaves in a violent and aggressive manner may be suffering from IED- Intermittent Explosive Disorder, which is an impulse control disease. This disorder is characterised by severely impulsive behaviour and persistent anger pangs.

IED or Intermittent Explosive Disorder usually develops in late childhood and often goes undiagnosed. The impulsive behaviour and anger pangs persist until middle age. A new study conducted by Harvard Medical School, US, analysed a survey of more than 10,000 teenagers and found that almost two-third of young teens have had a history of frequent anger pangs that at times involved aggression and violence.

It was revealed that in every 12 teens, one qualified the symptoms of IED.  Daily Telegraph, a popular daily in U.S, reported that according to the findings of the study, there may be around six million individuals in the U.S suffering from IED.

A person is said to be suffering from IED if he/she has had three incidents of impulsive aggressiveness at any of point of time in his/her life.

Researchers said that for the study, they had used a clearer definition of IED that does not include other mental disorders resulting in similar anger attacks.
