chronic kidney disease natural treatmentKidney disease can make you feel dizzy, drowsy, nauseated and what not. There are many things that you can do to help your kidneys function like they used to and avoid kidney-related complications. Lifestyle changes and remedies in conjunction with standard treatments can help you lead a healthy and active life.

To slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, you must do the following.

Avoid salty foods

Salt intake must be kept to a minimum when you have kidney disease. Abstain from salty snacks, fast food, canned vegetables and processed meats, as they have added salt. Stop adding salt to your cooking unless it is necessary. When eating out, ask for the salt to be left off foods.

Lower intake of potassium-rich foods

Foods such as bananas, oranges, potatoes, spinach and tomatoes are high in potassium and can worsen your condition. Instead, eat foods such as apples, cabbage, beans, grapes, strawberries and others with lower potassium content.

Limit proteins

Low in proteins, foods such as vegetables, fruits, grains and cereals serve your kidneys good. Limit foods such as meats, eggs, milk and other proteins in your diet. Take help of your health care provider to structure a diet plan that mentions an appropriate amount of protein you need to eat each day.

Give yourself enough vitamins

Studies have found that most kidney disease patients had in fact insufficient amounts of Vitamin D. Also, Vitamin B6 is known to play a key role in maintaining proper kidney function. To ensure your kidneys’ function efficiently, your diet needs to have some vitamin sources.

Make exercise a routine

Physical activity will help lower your risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes. Moreover, it will help you stay at a healthy weight, cope with fatigue and stress. Moderate exercise for 20 minutes is enough. If your condition is severe, work with your doctor for an exercise program that is right for you.

Don’t smoke or drink

Using tobacco products can lead to atherosclerosis, a condition that restricts blood flow to the kidneys. Kick smoking and drinking for the good of your kidneys. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation.

Get vaccinated

You should be up-to-date on important vaccinations such as Hepatitis A vaccine, Hepatitis B vaccine, Influenza vaccine and H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine.

Ayurvedic treatment

You can try Ayurvedic herbs that help improve kidney function. These include gokshur or tribulus terrestris, punarnava, kaasni and varun. It is advised to check with your doctor before you take any herbs.

Chronic kidney diseases get worse over time and can be devastating. You must understand that slight lifestyle modifications can make a lot of difference and help you overcome kidney-related complications. Besides these changes, you need to ask your doctor about tests to manage your condition.
