Looking smart and beautiful is everybody's right. Looking good also means losing unwanted fat and fighting the ageing process. And helping you in this quest are loads of new techniques. One such treatment is mesotherapy.
These days because of lifestyle changes, weight gain and early aging have become common problems. Mesotherapy, a non-surgical cosmetic treatment, can help you get rid of such problems. People who want to eliminate cellulite, lose weight and go for anti-aging techniques can go for this therapy.
The therapy employs multiple injections of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, plant extracts, vitamins, and other ingredients into the subcutaneous fat. Mesotherapy is a safe, natural alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures. The mesolift process delivers vitamins, minerals and amino acids directly into the skin to nourish, rejuvenate, promote production of collagen and elastin, and stimulates metabolism.
"Generally, mesotherapy is used for body sculpting and weight loss, cellulite treatment and 'mesolift' skin rejuvenation. Areas of the body that are treated include love handles, saddle bags, bra bulge, inner thigh bulge, outer thigh buttocks, abdomen, knee-pads, double chin and eye fat pads. It also helps in improving blood flow to the area, dissolving excess fat deposits, removing fibrotic, hardening connective tissue and improving lymphatic drainage," says Dr Seema Malik, managing director, Eleganza.
As your skin ages, circulation decreases, resulting in reduction of oxygen and nutrients thus hindering your body's ability to flush out toxins. Mesotherapy is a series of small, pinprick injections just below the skin to mobilise and melt away body fat.
A cycle of treatment is given at a gap of one week. Results are permanent if patient adheres to an appropriate nutrition and exercise schedule. Occasional touch-ups may be required.
Usually, the person requires eight to 10 treatments. Slender people with problem areas such as "love handles" or "saddlebags" may need fewer, while overweight persons may need more. Side effects with mesotherapy may include a short period of burning and itching and temporary soreness. Momentary bruising is common and tends to vanish within 1-2 weeks.
Other side effects include swelling, flushing, allergic response, queasiness, infections, hematoma, eruption, and necrosis.
The process of mesotherapy takes 30 minutes and needs no preparation or recuperation time. Besides, no heavy bandages or girdles are used. For those with minor pain thresholds, anesthetising cream or painkillers can be used.
"Treatment areas will remain free of unwanted fat as long as the patient maintains a healthy diet and exercise. The effect also depends on the person's body. Some patients see results after one treatment session while others may require four to five treatments," adds Dr Mallik.
Besides involving no anaesthesia and surgical risk, mesotherapy requires no recovery time. Mesotherapy also removes the fat from the fat cell without destroying it. Also, if you gain weight after having mesotherapy, the fat will simply return to the treated area.
"Mesotherapy can also be used for other aesthetic treatments like reducing puffy face fat, fat on the chin and eye bags. It works relatively well on cellulite too. Mesotherapy treatments usually require as many as 5 to 10 visits to the aesthetic doctor depending on how extensive the body part area is being treated," says Dr Aarti Mishra, a beauty consultant.
It is a simple outpatient treatment without any downtime or recovery time. The patient can expect some bruising on the area treated but these bruises will subside within a few days. The patient can resume his usual activities right after the mesotherapy treatment. So why not retain your beauty and the shape of the body the 'meso' way?
