If you are seeking to gain weight and bulk up, it is very important to count your calorie intake. You have to eat enough food and get enough calories to be able to gain weight.

Eat a diet which includes high proteins, high carbohydrates and healthy fats.For healthy weight gain, it is vital to stick to a diet which gives 50% of your calories from proteins, especially the lean proteins.

 

Proteins

Some of the excellent sources of protein are red meats such as in lean ground beef, fish such as salon, tuna, eggs, chicken, tofu, protein supplements such as whey proteins and soy protein supplements. A large part of your diet should come from these protein sources.

 

Carbohydrates

  1. Oatmeal, whole grain cereals and breads, quinoa.
  2. Fruits such as mango, apples, cherries, grapefruit, peaches etc.; vegetables such as corn, broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, radish etc.
  3. Pasta.
  4. Brown rice.
  5. Legumes such as Lima beans and chickpeas.

About 40% of your diet should have the above mentioned foods.

 

Fats

  1. Almonds.
  2. Olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, sesame oil etc.
  3. Walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds, hazelnuts etc.
  4. Peanuts.
  5. Butter, low fat milk.

Only 10% of your diet has to be from the above foods. These are known as healthy fats.

 

Healthy snacks

Nuts, apples, protein bars, pretzels and baked potato chips are all good when you are trying to gain weight. Cheese and dried foods also rank high in the list of weight gain foods. Chocolates, dressings, spreads etc. will also help you gain calories.

 

Meal replacements

These are powdered drink mixes that are designed for people who need to beef up. Though they are not really in the list of weight gain foods, but they can be used as a replacement for 1-2 meals.

 

There are a lot of people who want to gain weight in a healthy way. Hard gainers generally find it hard to eat too much at a time, so it is a good idea to have frequent small meals which are high in calories and include a number of weight gain foods every time. You have to make sure you eat more calories than your body can burn out. It is generally recommended that you gain weight in terms of muscles rather than body fat.
