Acute laryngitis is diagnosed clinically (based on medical history and physical examination). Tests are done in cases with chronic laryngitis or if the symptoms are bothersome. Some of the tests that may be done include imaging studies (such as CT scan, MRI scan), biopsy, laryngoscopy.
Prognosis of laryngitis is good in most cases. Laryngitis in people with an upper respiratory infection (URI), overuse of voice usually improves within 10 to 14 days.
