Metabolism refers to all the chemical and physical processes in the body that either utilize or convert energy. Processes such as blood circulation, breathing, contracting muscles, controlling body temperature, digestion, and other functions of the body, are involved in maintaining the living state of the cells and the organism. When we exercise or perform physical activities, our bodies require more energy and our metabolism speeds up to supply it. However, usually we aren’t active most of the times and our metabolism is dependent on our lifestyle. This is where you can rely on yoga poses to increase metabolism.
Yoga poses allow you to focus on different areas of the body targeting the systems that are holding your metabolism back. It supports the core as well as the circulation in the body, which plays a vital role improving metabolism. If you aren’t already doing it it’s time you try yoga to boost metabolism. Following yoga poses can be very helpful in getting your metabolism to speed up.
The Kapalbhati Pranayama pose is very effective in supporting several functions of the body especially digestion. The pose can very soon increase the metabolism of a person if performed regularly. To begin the pose, sit on a mat and fold your legs. Make sure you keep your spine straight and eyes closed. Now place the right palm on the right knee and the left palm on the left knee. Slowly take a deep breath without any extra effort. Now exhale with all your force to exhale all the air out. Perform this yoga pose to increase metabolism for at least 5 to 10 minute .
Also known as the butterfly pose, this yoga pose can be very effective in strengthening the core which has a direct impact on your metabolism. Start in a sitting position with legs stretched out in front of you. Slowly bend your legs at the knees and pull your legs in so that your heels touch each other and they are as close to your pelvis as possible. While holding your legs at the ankles, move your thighs up and down, just like the wings of a butterfly. Perform the pose for 5-6 times daily.
Also known as the cobra pose, bhujangasana is the excellent pose for those suffering from poor metabolism. To perform the pose, lie face down on a mat. Now slowly stretch and join the legs with both knees touching each other. Then place your palms near your chest and slowly taking a deep breath push your upper body up. Hold your breath for some time in this position and then exhale slowly and get back to the initial position. Perform this yoga poses to increase metabolism 4-5 times daily.
Vriksasana, also known as the tree pose, is the perfect pose for supporting your metabolism which can help you melt away the extra fat from your waist. To begin with, stand on a mat with your legs together. Now shift most of your weight on the left leg and slowly raise the right leg towards your opposite knee. Place the heel of your foot on your inner thigh of the left leg and gently raise your hands above your head making sure your fingers are pointing upwards. Repeat the same steps by switching the legs.
