Our body naturally produces uric acid as a waste product that results from the purine breakdown. Normally, the uric acid dissolved in the blood passes through the kidneys and is eliminated via urine. But in case the kidneys can’t excrete the excessive uric acid, you may end up suffering from a gout attack. This is why it is important to keep your uric acid levels in check.
Now, the problem is how to lower uric acid naturally. Here’s how:
Purines are natural substances that provide our body with energy. Eating foods containing high amounts of purines can lead to excessive accumulation of uric acid in various parts of the body if you have kidney problems.
Red meat, seafood, organ meats and some beans are all high in purines. Refined carbohydrates and vegetables such as asparagus, peas, mushrooms and cauliflower, should also be avoided.
Limit your soda intake to lower uric acid naturally. According to a study published on the Arthritis Today website, researchers found that those men who drank more than six servings of high fructose soft drinks each week, increased the occurrence of gout. This research does not mention the effect of diet soda but implicates fruit juices and other sugary drinks.
Alcohol dehydrates your body, so you must avoid consuming it in large quantities. Beer should especially be avoided for its high yeast content. Wine, however, doesn’t seem to affect uric acid levels. If you are a beer drinker, you must reduce or eliminate your intake.
Add cherries, blueberries and strawberries to your diet because these will help in reducing uric acid concentration in the body. The University of Maryland Medical Center supports this advice. There are certain other foods that lower uric acid. Pineapple contains a digestive enzyme, bromelain, which has anti-inflammatory properties that curb the proteins responsible for inflammation.
Celery is another effective food to reduce uric acid because it is a natural diuretic. It helps alkalize blood and decrease inflammation. Try a thimble full of seeds each day or take it in supplement form.

If you are overweight, eating a diet high in purines will shoot your uric acid levels up. Rapid weight loss could also be a possible reason. So, you will need to avoid crash dieting. If you are obese, develop a gradual weight-loss program to prevent an increase in uric acid levels.
Keep your body hydrated. Although, the body easily adapts to low water intake, optimum hydration is necessary to eliminate uric acid from your system. Water dilutes uric acid levels in the blood and stimulates the kidneys to pass on waste products to the bladder.
When the acid levels in your body are high, the condition is known as acidosis. It is related to the body’s uric acid level. If your pH level goes below 7, your body is acidic. To keep your body alkaline, add apples, apple cider vinegar, tart cherry juice, baking soda and lemons to your diet.
Add 1/2 teaspoonfuls of baking soda to 8 oz of water. Mix thoroughly, and drink a maximum of 8 glasses daily. This baking soda solution helps to dissolve uric acid crystals and increase uric acid solubility. You must, however, be careful about your salt intake while you are taking baking soda solution because the latter is high in sodium content. Consuming both in unbalanced quantities may increase your blood pressure.
