Bringing home the bundle of joy is a wonderful experience for a parent of a newborn. But, the real challenge starts after that and the especially difficult task is to get the baby to sleep in the crib. Parents often wonder how to get the baby to sleep in the crib—but it is not a very difficult task. You need some patience and persistence to teach your baby to sleep in the crib. If you make consistent effort for a few days you will succeed.
Here are some ways to get your baby to sleep in the crib.
Make the baby’s crib comfortable for feeling of security and do not let your baby associate crib with sleeping separately. If your child likes music play soft, soothing music in his room. Keep a special toy or blanket which he likes in the crib.
Put your baby to sleep in the crib even for naps during the day. This will make him comfortable sleeping the crib at night also. Make the crib a fun place---like you can play there in the day time with his favorite toys. Do not let your baby associate the crib with sleeping separately.
Put your baby to sleep the same time every night. Start preparing for bedtime before actually putting your baby in the crib such as give him a bath, change his clothes, sing him a lullaby.
Some experts recommend that it’s important to train the infants within a few weeks after birth to sleep in the crib. If the baby sleeps for long with the parents then getting the baby to sleep in crib becomes difficult. Ensure taht your care for your newborn baby does not overpower your will to teach them good sleeping habits.
Put your baby in the crib when he is sleepy and encourage him to fall asleep independently rather than putting him in the crib when he is asleep. This way even if you baby gets up in the middle of the night he can soothe himself to sleep again. If he gets up in the night and cries wait for some time before going to pick him up. Allow him to fall asleep without your assistance, this way he can learn to go back to sleep himself.
