Fever is mostly caused due to infection with bacteria and viruses. Hence the best way to prevent fever is to reduce your exposure to infectious diseases. Some measures to reduce exposure to infection to prevent fever include:
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. This is one of the best ways to prevent many common infections. Encourage your child to wash hands frequently especially after going to the toilet, before eating, and after handling pets and other animals. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand gel to clean hands.
- Eat healthy foods, exercise and take adequate rest to keep your immune system strong. Your diet should include whole grains, fruits and vegetables and fat-free dairy products.
In order to avoid spreading an infection that you have, avoid close contact with family and friends. People with cough and cold should use tissues to cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
Vaccines
Vaccines cannot prevent infection from all types of germs. But vaccines to prevent several infections such as typhoid, pneumococcal pneumonia and flu, are available. Consult your doctor for vaccines to prevent infections.
