Low intake of fluids, a low fibre diet, weak abdominal muscles and a high intake of refined foods are some of the major causes of constipation. Even though there are plenty of laxatives and other medical products available in the market, some simple home remedies for constipation can work wonders.

Apart from alleviating and avoiding the reoccurrence of the condition, home remedies for constipation have no side effects and enhance the nutrient content of the body as well. This guide will focus on different types of home remedies for constipation and their special features.

One of the most effective home remedies for constipation is to drink plenty of water.  Water eases the bowel movements and softens the stools.

Fruits like apple, pear, mango, figs, guava, grapes, orange and papaya are thought to be the best constipation home remedies. They act as an effective, natural laxative and help to ease the bowel movements. In case of severe constipation, consume large quantities of figs every morning.
