According to Dr. P.K. Dave, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Rockland Hospital, New DelhiI, if pain killers prove ineffective in treating osteoarthritis, the person can undergo joint lavage. Joint lavage involves washing of loose tissues or debris within the joint space. Sometimes due to osteoarthritis the tibia of the legs gets deformed resulting in bow legs. This operation is called high tibial osteotomy. Another method to treat osteoarthritis is cheilectomy. In this, operation is done to remove extra bones that are formed inside the joints. The last thing that can be done is joint replacement. It is a great way to treat osteoarthritis as it cures pain and makes the patient’s life easier.
