Pain during pregnancy can be a sign of preterm labour. Whenever a pregnant woman complains of pain it should be taken seriously, advices our expert Dr. Manjeet Arora , Obstrician and Gynecologist. Pain in the early stages of pregnancy should also be taken very seriously as it may indicate anything from the need for medication to a complication of abortion. If the pain occurs during the third, seventh or eighth month accompanied by regular tightening of the uterus, feeling pressure on the uterus or a frequent need for urination, then it may be an important sign of preterm labour. Around 10 % to15 % percent of pregnant women experience such pain. However, not every pain during pregnancy relates to preterm labour, says our expert.
