    Symptoms

    Symptoms of chlamydia are rare and less apparent. It’s very hard to tell if you are infected with the disease. Abnormal discharge, burning while peeing, bleeding between menstrual periods and painful intercourse are some symptoms.

    Requires Diagnosis

    While Chlamydia is the most widespread sexually transmitted disease, it’s less apparent symptoms make it hard to detect unless tested in lab. Around 50% of men infected with Chlamydia and 75% of infections in women are without symptoms. It is advisable for sexually active people to get an STD checkup once a year.

    Transmission

    Chlamydia is transmitted through oral, anal or vaginal sex. It can also be passed to child through vaginal delivery if the mother is infected with Chlamydia. Babies born to infected mothers may suffer from pneumonia or conjunctivitis. It can also be passed on to the eye from a hand moistened with the discharge and cause conjunctivitis.

    Higher Risk

    More number of sexual partners increases the risk of getting Chlamydia. It is recommended to have a monogamous relationship and use all the precautions during sex. Being infected with Chlamydia also increases the risk of getting HIV.
