Honey is popularly used by people for weight loss and soothing a scratchy throat, but very few people know that it can also be used to treat minor cuts, burns, cough or sore throat. According to a review done last year, honey is also effective in treating minor to moderate burns. Another recent study has found a protein called defensin-1 in the honey, which enhances its antibacterial properties. Apply small amount of warm honey to the affected area and then put a gauze bandage on top. Make sure you change the dressing on a daily basis. However, if the burn is accompanied by inflammation, fever or pain, consult your doctor instead of trying this or any home remedy.
