    According to researchers, people who eat fruits that are high in fibre along with other fibre-rich foods shield themselves against Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is characterised by a breakdown of the brain’s cells that produce dopamine. It is the free-radical fighting power of apples that helps in keeping Parkinson’s away.

    Who doesn’t like to shine a smile? Apples can help you do just that if you shy away from smiling because of stained teeth. But, that doesn’t mean an apple can replace your toothbrush. As you chew an apple, your mouth produces more saliva, reducing tooth decay and lowering the level of bacteria.

    According to scientists from the American Association for Cancer Research, consuming flavonol-rich apples reduces the risk of developing various cancers, especially that of the pancreas  by up to 23 per cent. The researchers have found several compounds on the peel of an apple that have initiate anti-growth activities against tumourous cells in the breast, colon and liver.

    With diabetes cases on a rise, it may seem rather silly to believe that a tiny colour coated ball could help us prevent it. Well, the truth has it that we can. It has been found by researchers that eating an apple a day reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 28 percent. This is because apples are loaded with soluble fibre, which helps in maintaining fluctuating blood sugar levels.
