    Just the thought of having a toothache can make a chill run down your spine. The worst part about a toothache is that it can catch you at the most unexpected moments when you are completely off guard. Reasons behind an ailing tooth can be many such as cavities, infections or any other dental problem. The bacteria that are stuck with food between teeth can give birth to unbearable pain and irritation. To deal with the trouble, it is always advisable to consult a dentist. However, there can be times when you will reach the threshold of pain and going to a dentist will be impossbile. In such situations, some simple ingredients kept in your kitchen shelf can give you ample relief from the pain. Here are some of them.

    Salt

    This magic ingredient can not only add flavour to your food but it can also come to your rescue when a toothache strikes hard. Prepare a natural mouthwash using this ingredient. Take glass of warm water and add a teaspoonful of salt stir it a little. Take a sip and swish it in your mouth properly. The salt present in the solution will remove the excess fluid in the decayed tooth area, reducing the pain and swelling.

    Pepper

    Combating a toothache with pepper is an excellent remedy and the best part is that you can use it in many ways to soothe the trouble. Grind few black peppers and add few drops of water to the powder to make a paste. Apply this paste to the affected area and leave it for a while. Alternatively, you can mix salt with ground pepper and apply it on the affected tooth.

    Garlic

    Many of us may be worried about dealing with the bad breath problem which will be an after effect of using garlic to soothe a toothache. But, that can be solved later. Garlic due to its antibacterial and medicinal attributes can combat toothache very effectively. Take a couple of garlic cloves and chew them. There are chances that the severe pain makes it troublesome to chew anything. In such situations, crush few garlic cloves and add salt to it. Apply the paste to the ailing tooth and leave it for some time.

    Cloves

    Cloves are the most sought remedy for toothache in almost every household. It is believed to be the most effective kitchen ingredient when it comes to soothing an ailing tooth. It happens because cloves have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties that can give you immediate relief. Take a clove and directly put it under your paining tooth. Close your mouth and let the clove stay between your upper and lower tooth for a while.

    Onions

    Onions can add the desired flavour to your dish but, did you know they can also relieve you of an irritable tooth. Take a piece of onion and place it under the tooth and watch its antibacterial properties perform their job.  You can also chew onion to soothe the inflammation and ache.

    Baking Soda

    Take a small piece of cotton and dip it in water. Now, put some baking soda on this wet cotton and make a small ball out of it. Put this ball between you cheek and the aching tooth. Keep your mouth close and rest for some time.

    Asafetida

    Asafetida will not only counter a toothache but, it can also give you relief from other mouth troubles like bleeding gums. Take a pinch of asafetida and apply it on the tooth directly. Or, you can also add few drops of lemon juice to asafetida and apply the paste to the tooth with a clean finger or with a cotton swab.
