Diarrhoea is not a fatal problem, but it can get very discomforting. Learn some of the strangest causes of diarrhea.
  • 1

    Sorbitol

This artificial sweetener is naturally found in some fruits and in many sugar-free products such as chewing gum, candy, juices, ice creams and juices. Because sorbitol is metabolized very slowly, it often causes bloating and gas. Besides, it draws water into the intestinal tract, resulting in diarrhea. It is best to check the labels of sugar-free products before buying them. So, consult your doctor if you get gastrointestinal problems.

    Giardia

You will not know if you have caught a parasite, until you experience unusual changes in your body. Parasites like Giardia lamblia can enter the body through food or water and settle in the digestive system. So, if you are experiencing diarrhea for a prolonged duration, we suggest you to visit your doctor immediately.

    Intense workout

Intense workout regimes such as heavy weight lifting and long-distance runs can give you an upset stomach or even worse, diarrhoea. When you exercise intensely, much of the blood supply goes away from your digestive tract, leading to abdominal cramping. Experiencing such problems occasionally may not imply a serious problem, but if you frequently need to rush to the bathroom while exercising, you should consult your doctor as it could indicate a major problem.

    Antibiotics

Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to fight bacterial infections, but sometimes, they can be blamed for giving you diarrhea. Whether you are taking antibiotics for a dental procedure, sinus infection or for any other reason, they are most likely to affect you and cause diarrhea. If you are experiencing diarrhea due to antibiotics, ask your doctor if you should stop taking them.
