Women experience bodily changes throughout their lives. Hence, the chances of ignoring signs of ovarian cancer multiply manifold. Beware of these signs to stay protected and to lead a healthy life.

    Changes are Not for Good Always!

    A female’s body is susceptible to changes. Whether it pregnancy or menstruation, a woman experiences a lot of alterations in her body throughout her life. Although these changes are normal, in some cases, they can be a sign of ovarian cancer. Thus, ignoring them can cost you your life. Taking care of your body and staying alert about the changes is the key to good health. Following are some symptoms you must keep a check on.

    Abdominal Pain

    A pain in the pelvic area or belly, which feels different from the one experienced in indigestion problems or menstruation, can be a sign of ovarian cancer. The pain persists for longer than 2 weeks and is not caused due to periods, diarrhea, or stomach infection.

    One of the most significant signs of ovarian cancer can be indigestion. A prolonged digestive trouble, nausea, or other gastro-intestinal issues like heartburn can be sign of ovarian cancer.

    Loss of Appetite

    One of the well-known signs of ovarian cancer is sudden loss of appetite. This happens because cancer affects the metabolism of the body which is responsible for breaking down of food and converting it into the energy needed by the body.

    Another sign that indicates ovarian cancer is bloating or formation of gas in the belly or pelvic area. When your abdominal area bloats so much that it gets tough for you to fit in your normal clothes, you could be suffering from ovarian cancer.

    Frequent Urination

    A sudden urge to visit the washroom or the need to frequently urinate i.e. more than normal must be checked by a doctor. If you are suffering from ovarian cancer, the frequency of urination may worsen over weeks.

    Feeling Full Without Eating Much

    When ovarian cancer reaches its advanced stages, the tumour may place itself over the surface of stomach i.e. either on the omentum or on the intestines. This makes the patient feel full quickly after eating.

    Constipation and Diarrhea

    If you are suffering from ovarian cancer, you will experience a change in bowel habits such as constipation and diarrhea. This happens because ovarian tumour swells and exerts pressure on stomach, bowel, and bladder.

    Lower Back Pain

    A constant and dull pain in the lower back can be a sign of ovarian cancer. The pain would be very much similar to that which you experience during labor.

    Sudden Drop in Weight

    Shedding more than 10 pounds without any change in diet or physical exercise can also be an early sign of ovarian cancer. This sudden and rapid weight loss must be reported to the doctor immediately.

    Vaginal Bleeding

    This is a lesser known sign of ovarian cancer that has only been seen in approximately 1 quarter of ovarian cancer patients. Women have noticed spotting or irregular vaginal bleeding without their regular menstrual cycle. There can be other abnormalities like sores or blisters in the vaginal area, change in skin colour, or thick discharge caused due to ovarian cancer tumour.
