Thyme has volatile oils to increase the levels of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and make brain function better. Black pepper contains a pungent compound called piperine which is known to increases beta-endorphins in the brain to boost cognitive function, improve your mood and promote feelings of relaxation. Moreover, studies have linked black pepper to prevention/treatment of Parkinson’s disease because piperine inhibits an enzyme that degrades dopamine.
A study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease suggests that cinnamon has compounds to prevent brain cells from swelling and protect against a number of age-related neurological disorders. What’s more, simply smelling the spice also improves cognitive function.
