Just like your skin, your scalp needs to be kept clean and healthy during summers. The good news is that there are a lot of effective ways to limit the damage and help retain the shine of your mane.

Sun can wreak havoc your hair

During summers, your scalp produces oil in excess, which leads to dandruff, itching and an unpleasant odour. An oily scalp attracts dust and dirt as a result of excessive sweating and this subsequently leads to infections. Unfortunately, even swimming adds to the damage. It is pretty obvious that an unhealthy scalp cannot harbour healthy hair. Resort to these effective ways to keep your scalp clean this season.

    Avoid harsh shampoo

Dry, hot air, locally known as “loo” and wind during steamy days can cause your hair to dry. Using harsh shampoos often will result into more brittle hair. The result–split ends and frizzy hair. You should instead go for mild shampoos that do not contain stern chemicals.

    Wash daily

Exposure to the sun calls for a hair wash. A great way to keep your scalp clean during summers, hair wash will rinse off all the sweat and dirt accumulation. Additionally, unwashed hair is more prone to problems like dandruff.

    Air dry

An effective but undermined hair care tip for summers would be to air dry your hair instead of blow drying them. If you tie your hair up, do it only when your hair is completely dry. Tying wet hair puts your hair at an increased risk of dirt accumulation, leading to an itchy, flaky scalp. While your dryer might be a convenient option, it will damage your mane; avoid it.

    Oil massage

Getting an oil massage is a great way to unwind after a long, tiring day. Coconut oil is your best bet to rejuvenate dry, brittle hair. For added benefits, warm it a bit before applying, but make sure it’s not hot.

    Make a routine

Your scalp faces a lot of stinging heat during summer, so caring for it should be a part of your daily beauty routine. One of the most important hair care tips during summers is to pamper your hair to prevent hair damage. Treat your tresses with regular hair spas, trims and natural treatments at home such as using egg mask on hair.

    Hydrate yourself

Water is a magic beverage, which can provide you with healthy body, skin and hair. Drink at least eight glasses of water or more because your body loses more moisture in the form of sweat in summer. To nourish your scalp better, follow your shampoo with a conditioner. Egg and honey mask are great natural conditioners.
