10 Efficient Home Remedies for Gallstones

    Stone Formation in Gallbladder

    A small pear-shaped pouch located behind the liver is called gallbladder which saves the cholesterol-rich bile that is secreted from the liver. When you eat fatty food, some of this bile is send from the bladder for easy digestion of food. But, when the bile contains excessive amounts of cholesterol, it crystallizes in lack of sufficient bile to saturate the cholesterol, and gallstones occur.     Apple Juice and Apple Cider Vinegar

    Of course, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Mix one tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a glass of apple juice and drink once every day. Apples contain malic acid that assists in softening the gallstones and vinegar prevents the liver from making stone-causing cholesterol. It is a quick remedy for pain during a gallstone attack.     Pear Juice

    According to the American Medical Association (AMA), about 80% of gallstones are formed by hardened cholesterol. Pear contains pectin that binds to cholesterol-filled gallstones for easy flush-out of these stones. However, according to the British Journal of Nutrition, pectin does not prevent gallstones nor have considerable effect on metabolizing cholesterol. Pear juice is natural and it wouldn’t harm to try it as a home remedy for gallstones. Drink thrice daily a mixture of ½ glass of hot water, ½ a glass of pear juice and 2 tbsp of honey.     Beetroot, Cucumber, and Carrot Juice

    Add equal amounts of beetroot juice, cucumber juice, and carrot juice to strengthen and cleanse your gallbladder and your liver. This combination also helps in cleansing your colon and blood.     Milk Thistle

    A Mediterranean her, milk thistle helps in shrinking gallstones and eliminated bladder pain. Keep 1 tsp of crushed milk thistle leaves and seeds in a muslin bag and place this bag in hot water.     Dandelion leaves do a lot- support your liver, aid your bladder’s functioning, promote bile excretion, and detoxify and metabolize fat efficiently. Pour a cup of hot water over 1 tsp of dandelion leaves placed in a cup. Cover and let it absorb for 5 minutes. You can also add honey to this and drink dandelion leaves tea twice daily.     Peppermint oil contains terpene, a natural compound that is believed to dissolve gallstones. It is also helpful in digestion because it stimulates the bile flow and other digestive juices. Boil a cup of water and add 1 tsp of fresh or dried mint leaves to it; cover and steep for 4-5 minutes.     A high fibre diet is essential to treat gallbladder stones. Psyllium is an excellent source of soluble fibre which binds to the cholesterol in bile and helps prevent gallstone formation. You can take it along with your other fibre-rich meals. Before going to bed at night, mix 1 tsp of psyllium to a glass of water and drink immediately.
