A new survey in America has revealed that those using illicit drugs are much more likely to think about committing suicide than from the rest. The survey was conducted by the federal government.
Among all the Americans, lightly less that 4 percent of them who were 18 and older were found to have serious thoughts about suicide the past year. For illicit drug users the rate was 9.4 percent according to the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health report.
The percentage of adults who said they had serious thoughts of suicide the past year was found to be varied by the type of drug that was used. 9.6 percent of them were marijuana users to nearly 21 percent of them were using sedatives for non-medical purposes.
This trend could be similar in other countries too, and hence needs to be checked at the earliest. Suicide happens to have a devastating effect on people and society in general. People in crisis should take immediate help from trusted associates.
