Taking 200 micrograms of selenium every day as a dietary supplement may help in reducing the risk of developing prostate cancer. Selenium is a trace mineral that is needed in small amounts by the body. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, plants are the best source of selenium, though you may find the mineral in other food items, such as beef, turkey, noodles and tuna. People with iodine deficiency and those suffering from gastrointestinal disorders may need dietary supplements of selenium.
Genistein may suppress the development of prostate cancer cells, thereby enhancing the effects of prostate cancer treatments, such as radiation among others. Genistein is phytoestrogen and soy-derived isoflavone that may have immunosuppressive and antioxidant effects. You may find genistein in a great variety of foods, such as soybeans, chilli-pepper, chickpeas and tofu.

Although, these dietary supplements are known to decrease the risk of developing prostate cancer or prevent it entirely, more studies need to be done to determine exactly how the dietary supplements and diet can be utilised to treat or prevent prostate cancer.
