Include lots of complex carbohydrates in your diet in the form of whole-grain breads and cereals. Choose a whole-grain product instead of refined flour as the former can help in reducing the blood sugar levels, thereby reducing the body’s need for insulin.

Sodium can lead to heart disease and high blood pressure.

Cut Vitamin B1 from Your Diet

Balch advises that diabetics limit the intake of vitamin B1 as it is likely to inactivate insulin, thereby making it more difficult for diabetics to control blood sugar levels. Vitamin B1 is found in abundance in egg yolks, pork products, peanuts and poultry.

While you are on a diabetic diet, make sure that you avoid the consumption of tobacco or alcohol in any form as these constrict the arteries and blood vessels making it even more difficult for the heart to pump blood throughout the system.
