Second trimester of pregnancy is the most relaxing time for pregnant women. Annoying pregnancy symptoms of first trimester vanish by this time and the lost energy level also returns. However, second trimester of pregnancy has its own share of complications.

Bleeding gums

Bleeding in gums and nose are common complaints of pregnant women during their second trimester. This is due to the increased blood flow as per demand of the increasing foetus size.

 

Gestational diabetes

Another complication during second trimester of pregnancy is the increased risk of gestational diabetes. As the size of foetus increases so does the need of nutrition and glucose level of women’s body. This increased blood sugar level often results in a condition called gestational diabetes.

Leg cramps

Leg cramps and dizziness are also common during the second trimester.

Because of the growing foetus, women experience increase appetite during second trimester.

 

Aches and pain

Aches and pains in back, abdomen, groin, thighs and back are also common during pregnancy. However, these pains are normal and only indicate that your body is adjusting to the growing baby.


Respiratory problems

Growing baby tend to put pressure on the organs such as lung. Owing to this reason respiratory problems are also common during the second trimester of pregnancy.


Cramping

Till the end of second trimester risk of preterm labour begins. Some of the signs of preterm labour include cramping, sharp gas pain, pelvic pressure, lower back ache, diarrhoea and increased discharge from vagina.

 

Preterm premature rupture of membranes

Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) is another serious pregnancy problem that can arise in second trimester. Preterm infants are at greater risk of infection due to PPROM.

 

Miscarriage

Even though the risk of miscarriage is minimal in the second trimester. But pregnancy loss due to factors other than chromosomal ones can lead to miscarriage. So it is important to take care of yourself. The woman who have experienced bleeding in first trimester or has history of asthma and miscarriage must abstain from exercising.

    Hi,I am aparna. i have HbsAgB+ since childhood. i am 5 months pregnant with my second child. my first child is 3 years old. since past 10 days i have lot of vomitings, feeling feverish, constipation getting hiccups as soon as i eat anything. i am not feeling like eating anything..doctors here say i have gastritis..i am taking these tablets - rofer (ondansetron 4mg) twice a day and razo (Rabeprazole sodium 20mg) once a day. Scan reports, Liver function test and blood reports are norm..please help
