Ayurveda for HIV and AIDSHIV /AIDS has become a global epidemic and modern medicine has no proven cure for HIV /AIDS. Antiretroviral therapy is currently used for treatment of HIV/AIDS. However they are associated with several side effects, development of resistance and are very costly. Owing to these limitations of allopathic medicines, Ayurvedic remedies have become useful alternative for long-term management of patients with HIV/AIDS. Most of the ayurvedic remedies don’t have serious side-effects and are fairly economical.

 

Along with herbal remedies, nutritious diet, exercise and yoga, timely allopathic treatment of opportunistic infections and regular counseling support are important for management of HIV/ AIDS patients. Some of the commonly used herbs, for the treatment of HIV/AIDS are Amalaki, Ashwagandha, and Tulsi. Ayurvedic medicines used for treatment of HIV/AIDS patients can be a Virus Killer, Immune Developer, or body cleanser.

 

Ayurvedic medicines as Virus Killer: Several ayurvedic medicines such as aree chathura, thriphala, sukshma thrifala are potent virus killers that can even kill HIV Virus. These medicines can be combined or used along with allopathic medicines.

 

Ayurvedic medicines as Immune developers: These ayurvedic medicines improve immunity, CD4 cell as well as CD8 cell count to fight HIV. Chyavanprash, Ashwagandha Rasayana, Ajamamsa Rasayana, KanmadaRasayana, Shonitha Baskara Arishta are examples of drugs which boost immunity.

 

Ayurvedic medicines as Body cleanser: These ayurvedic medicines clean body, nerves, even cells. Shonitha  Baskara Arishta, nanary Arishta, Ksheera Bala are some ayurvedic medicines that increase immunity and work as body cleansers.

 

Caution with Ayurveda: Ayurvedic medicines have shown good results in treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS but these drugs cannot cure it. Unlike antiretroviral drugs they do not show quick results. Some of the Ayurvedic medicines can interact with your antiretroviral therapy. Do not stop antiretroviral therapy without consultations with your physician before opting for Ayurvedic medicines.
