The term Alternative Medicine is a form of medicine which comes outside the mainstream way of modern medicine or conventional medicine. This term is applicable for all the forms of medicine except allopathy. The existence of alternative therapies can be seen in all the cultures to some extent such as traditional medicine, indigenous medicine or folk medicine etc. are used to describe such practices.

Such medicines have been used in many countries for hundreds and thousands of years. These are more than 100 systems of alternative medicines which are practiced all the world. Every country, region or area has its own traditional health system and medical cares. Some alternative medicine system include acupuncture for the Chinese, magnetic healing for the French, Heilpraxis for the English and Herbalism and Ayurveda for India and Shiatsu for Japan.

The most popular forms of alternative medicine are Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Yoga, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Magneto Therapy, Shiatsu, Herbalism, Meditation, Aromatherapy, Bach Flower Remedies, Chromo Therapy, Diet Therapy, Hydropathy and Reiki.

It is similar to acupuncture except that it is done by using finger for pressure than the fine needles. The pressure on the specific points along the body is used to treat ailments such as tension, stress, aches, pains, menstrual cramps and arthritis.

This system has been practiced in India for more than 5000 years, ayurvedic tradition holds that illness is a state of imbalance among the body's systems that can be detected through such diagnostic methods such as reading pulses and observing the changes in the tongue.

According to the Ancient Egyptian writings, pain can be relieved by stimulating certain points on the ear. There were several publications which indicated several techniques of cauterization and manipulation of the ears to cure certain ailments. Massaging and palpating some specific points on the ear can be very beneficial.
